Collection: Rooted Signals
“The thing we want to learn about a stranger is fragile. If we tread carelessly, it will crumble under our feet. The right way to talk to strangers is with caution and humility.” – Malcolm Gladwell
Rooted Signals explores the intricate world of human emotions. The series of surrealistic illustrations are inspired by various subject matters and events, including social, political, cultural, and spiritual. For centuries, we’ve been preset to address our emotions in an almost definitive manner, led by a binary way of thinking. A binary way of thinking is the thought process that everything is either right or wrong, true or false, good or bad, or black and white.
The artworks created for this collection give a nuanced outlook on a different array of feelings and thought processes; the consistent use of nature is an attempt to neutralize the way in which we celebrate or denounce our emotions. Contrasting images and themes are also used across the series, mirroring the archaic limitations of binary thinking.
The objective of this collection is to attain a better understanding of ourselves, those that surround us, and the situations that we come across in life. Rooted Signals is an attempt to cultivate a change in mindset and present a new way of seeing ourselves and the world.
